Abrasive Wheels

This course is directed at fitters and operators who are expected to mount and maintain abrasive wheels. The course involves both classroom and practical sessions. It details the employer’s and employee’s duties regarding the use of workplace equipment under relevant legislation. The course is about selecting and mounting abrasive wheels, and not the safe use of the machine. The course is based on the General Application Regulations  Part 12: Abrasive Wheels Regulations.

Course Methodology & Assessment

The course will be presented in a modular format, which includes problem-based learning and practical skills. Practical assessments of the learners will be carried out on the following:

  • Mount, operate, handle and store abrasive wheels correctly and safely;
  • Apply the principles of wheel selection; and
  • Test and maintain wheels safely.

  • Causes of Accidents
  • Malpractice
  • Methods of Storing and Handling
  • Methods of Inspecting and Testing
  • Functions of Components Used, Including Flanges, Washers, Bushes, Nuts Used in Mounting, Tool Rests
  • Assembling and Balancing Components
  • Dressing Abrasive Wheels

Course Duration

One half-day with a maximum of 10 participants in each course.

Entry Criteria

No previous qualifications are required for learners to participate in the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance from EMS & Associates.
