This QQI Level 6 Component Special Purpose award is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competencies to deliver manual handling training in the workplace. The course is delivered by a combination of instructors specialising in health and safety, ergonomics, and physiotherapy/physical therapy. The course is delivered in line with the standards set in the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 – Part 2, Chapter 4: Manual Handling of Loads. The training is delivered in a method that is easily assimilated by the learner and, at the same time, ensures that all learning outcomes are achieved. Skills demonstrations: 60% (two skills demonstrations – Practical and Presentation Skills)
Assignments: 20% (one assignment – brief devised by internal assessor)
Examination – Theory: 20%; 20 short answer questions (SAQs, one point each)
All assessments are carried out in accordance with QQI guidelines. In addition, as part of the quality assurance procedures of EMS & Associates, prior to submitting the results to QQI, internal verification and external authentication are carried out to ensure consistency with national standards.
The minimum number of learners is 6; the maximum number of learners is 12.
2 full days in class, 6 half days on-line (MS Teams) and 3 hours eLearning
The first day and the last day are instructor-led in class – the last day is the assessment day.
Learners should have reached a standard of knowledge, skill and competence either associated with achieving an award on the preceding level on the National Framework of Qualifications or through relevant life and work experience. Successful completion of this component award may enable the learner to transfer to programmes leading to other certificates where this component is a mandatory or an elective requirement.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a QQI Level 6 Component Award.
