Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults

Our Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults (incorporating Elder Abuse) course is designed for any person working with vulnerable adults. This course helps participants to understand and recognise abuse and how to manage and report incidents in line with national standards and guidelines.

Course Methodology & Assessment

This course is based on the Health Service Executive (HSE) Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse National Policy & Procedures and the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standard – The Protection Standard of the National Quality Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland.

Assessments of the learners are carried out by the course tutor through observations of their group work and their engagement and participation on the course.

  • Forms of Elder Abuse
  • Abuse in a Residential or Acute Setting
  • Definition of a “Vulnerable Person”
  • Action and Response in the Event of an Allegation

Course Duration

One half-day with a 15-minute refreshment break

Entry Criteria

No previous qualifications are required for learners to participate in the course.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults Certificate from EMS & Associates.
