This QQI Level 5 Component award is designed to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competencies to promote and maintain safety and health in the working environment. The course is delivered by health and safety trainers who have knowledge of and experience with the vocational area of the learners. The training is delivered in a method that is easily assimilated by the learner and, at the same time, ensures that all learning outcomes are achieved.
Assignments: 60% (two assignments – brief devised by internal assessor)
Examination – Theory: 40%:
Section A – 10 out of 12 short answer questions (SAQs, two points each)
Section B – 2 out of 3 structured questions (10 points each)
In order to meet the needs of each individual learner on the course, each learner will be given a pre-course questionnaire to determine their learning requirements in relation to health and safety. Over the period of the course, learners are required, as part of their non-contact hours, to complete a log/portfolio of health and safety tasks carried out in their work environment. This, in turn, will help with completing the required assignments.
All assessments are carried out in accordance with QQI guidelines. In addition, as part of the quality assurance procedures of EMS & Associates, prior to submitting the results to QQI, internal verification and external moderation are carried out to ensure consistency with national standards.
