Skills Demonstrations:

Learners are formally assessed on practical skills throughout, or at the end of the course using the PHECC CFR Community and First Aid Essentials skills assessment sheets.

Assessment Requirements:

The mandatory assessment components are the PHECC CFR Community skills assessment and the First Aid Essentials skills assessments. Remediation is provided in line with EMS & Associates assessment policy and procedures.

There is a maximum ratio of 8:1 (Learner: Instructor) for practical skills sessions.

Cardiac First Response - Community

Introduction to First Aid - Scene Safety, Communication, Consent, and Responder Wellbeing.

Patient Assessment - Primary Survey, Vital Signs, SAMPLE History and Secondary Survey.

Injury Management - Bleeding, Nosebleed, Musculoskeletal Injury, Spinal Injury and Burns.

Common Medical Emergencies - Diabetic Emergency, Asthma and Seizures, Poisons, Anaphylaxis, Sepsis and Fainting, Care of the Patient with Altered Level of Consciousness, Practical First Aid Skills and Patient Care.

Please note that this Basic First Aid course is not a replacement for First Aid Response (FAR).

Where an organisation's Health & Safety Risk Assessments identify a requirement for a trained First Aid Responder, the appropriate 3-day First Aid Response course must be completed.

The Basic First Aid course is ideal for organisations wishing to provide additional first aid training to staff, enabling them to support designated First Aid Responders, increase first aid awareness and build confidence in responding to common injuries and medical emergencies.

It is also suitable for a wide range of settings where practical first aid knowledge and skills would be beneficial, including workplaces, community groups, sports and recreational environments, and everyday settings.
