Today is our birthday!

1st April 2021 by EMS-Staff

No, it’s not an April Fool’s joke – EMS and Associates was officially created on 1 st April 1995 so today is our birthday.
26 years keeping you safe ……………….and how the time has flown.
Our first office was the attic in our house! The next office was the converted garage and finally in
1997 we moved to Brookfield Enterprise Centre in Tallaght.
Our official opening:

Niall & Carmel with Mary Harney, Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment

We started off just doing First Aid training and supplies and knew we were on the right path when a
course participant said to us (while holding his cert) “I’m 63 years of age and this is the first piece of
paper I have ever received to tell me I’m worth something”. We knew that we were destined to not
just deliver a service, but to nurture the human spirit along the way. We also met lovely people on
our journey.

Niall with Sr. Stan, Focus Ireland, and John Stafford, Lord Mayor of Dublin

We call ourselves Health & Safety CATs – Consultants, Auditors and Trainers!
We are a QQI accredited centre; a PHECC Approved Training Institution; an Irish Heart Foundation
site and a Solas Safepass Approved Training Organisation. We are also a franchisee of Dulann.com –
the Wexford based eLearning and Compliance Software system company. The CATs that got the
cream!
In 2015 we moved our office to Matthews Lane South in Drogheda and officially opened our offices
there on 1 st April 2015:

Niall & Carmel with Ged Nash, Minister for Business & Employment

Our journey and our mission continue………….to make sure that, though our work, you get home safely each day!

Our birthdays also come around each year and last year we celebrated a lockdown birthday of 25 years in business and now, our 26th birthday in lockdown too.

25th Birthday
26th Birthday

Here’s to many more years of keeping you safe!!

What are your training options?

9th February 2021 by EMS-Staff

This past year, with the onset of COVID-19, has seen drastic changes in the manner in which training is delivered.  We have had to quickly move away from traditional training, where possible, and embrace both online delivery and eLearning.  The need to train and maintain compliance does not go away during a pandemic.  In fact, it may even increase, with increased risks presenting.

Are you thinking about training for employees, in particular eLearning, but are not sure what the advantages are or where to go about it?

Let us give you some interesting facts about eLearning!

Reduces Employee Turnover

It is difficult to attract and retain good employees. To get the right people to join and stay in your business, you must provide a transparent and achievable career development path, which offers the opportunity to upskill. eLearning provides you with the ability to provide this career development in a cost-effective fashion that works for your business rather than against it.

Reduce Disruption to Schedules

eLearning means no boundaries in terms of rostering. One of the key advantages of eLearning is that employees have the freedom to participate in eLearning courses from anywhere, and at any time once they have an internet connection. eLearning gives both management and employees more flexibility to complete important training around the operational schedule, rather than disrupting it.

Improve Sales & Customer Satisfaction

It is a well-known fact that good customer service is the lynchpin of success in any industry. Proper training on handling customers and communicating the value of products effectively goes a long way in ensuring high quality customer service.  Standardising this training across all employees gives your organisation the competitive edge that is needed in today’s competitive world.

It is Measurable?

Because eLearning is digital, it can all be measured at a granular level. Let’s not get technical, but Dulann EMS support SCORM publications on a Learning Management System (LMS) so each learner’s activity can be measured, tracked, and traced. Automatic reminders can be sent to employees who have started a course but not finished, or when new courses are available.

Increase Compliance

Dulann deploy courses that are focused on Montessori and/or Cognitive based approaches to learning. This self-directed and self-paced approach means that our learners retain far more information. It’s not rocket science to work out that when people retain more information, they are generally more compliant and productive.

Everyone uses eLearning

That’s right, eLearning is far more widely used than you may think initially! Doctors & Nurses, Insurance Professionals, Teachers and Accountancy Practitioners all complete online Continuous Professional Development (CPD) these days. Large Retail and Hospitality chains, Students and Multinationals all use eLearning to deliver core training.

Save Money

Let’s go straight to the bottom line. eLearning reduces many costs that would normally be associated with classroom training.  When you consider savings on items such as travel, overtime, learning materials, venues, catering, etc, then it’s a win-win. What are you waiting for?

Reduce your Carbon Footprint!

A recent study found that eLearning courses involve 87% less energy and 85% lower carbon dioxide emissions than traditional classroom based courses. These reductions were found to be largely due to the reduced requirements for travel, but it was also down to reduced paper wastage. So not alone will Dulann EMS save you time and money, but we will also reduce hassle and make you feel good, all at the same time!

Do you need more guidance and help to establish what the learning needs are for your organisation?  We offer a range of solutions, including blended learning (where practical skills must take place).  Give Susan, Daniel, or Carmel a call on 041-9822933 for a chat or email us on info@emsandassociates.com and we’ll get you sorted. Visit our site for more information.

Update regarding Solas Safe Pass Courses, January 2021.

28th January 2021 by EMS-Staff

EMS & Associates have received an update on Solas Safe Pass Courses. SOLAS has informed all Approved Training Organisations (ATOs) of the further suspension of Safe Pass training courses until after 5th March 2021.

SOLAS’s parent department, the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science has informed SOLAS that Safe Pass, CSCS and QSCS courses and assessments fall within the Government’s most recently announced public health restrictions. Therefore, the suspension of Safe Pass, CSCS and QSCS courses will remain in place in keeping with COVID -19 Level 5 restrictions.

In this regard, no further Safe Pass, CSCS and QSCS courses and assessment events are to be promoted, organised, scheduled, or delivered until after Friday, 5 March 2021.

CSCS and QSCS card replacements and renewals, along with Safe Pass card replacements, will continue to be provided by SOLAS through its online services.

Update from PHECC on FAR Certificates

25th January 2021 by EMS-Staff

Update from PHECC

We have a small update from PHECC in relation to First Aid Responder Certificates:

As an Approved Training Institution (ATI), we have been advised by the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) that there will be a further extension to the validity of First Aid Responder certificates. They state as follows “Council, at their meeting on 21st January 2021, further advised that if a Responders certification has expired between March 2020 and 31st July 2021, a Responder may complete the refresher course to maintain certification”. This statement means for First Aid Responders that if their FAR Certificate has expired, but was issued post-March 2020, it will be considered valid until 31st July 2021. However, if a FAR Certificate expired pre-March 2020, it is no longer valid, and a full FAR Course will have to be completed. Please review this link on the PHECC website for the update on PHECC Responder level recertification (21/01/2021).

While instructor-led training is currently on hold, due to Government restrictions, we will inform you when we will be in a position to resume classroom-based training. We will always be guided by Government announcements and public health restrictions. However, in the meantime, should you require training, we can also offer a blended First Aid Responder Course – 9 hours eLearning and 9 hours in Class (1 of only 2 companies in the country offering this option). The eLearning element can be completed at any time, and we can schedule in the instructor-led class when we get back to classroom training. Many companies are choosing to do their eLearning element now so that they are ready for the instructor-led class when restrictions are lifted. If you require any further information, please contact us on 041-9822933 or email:info@emsandassociates.com. You can also visit our website on  www.emsandassociates.com

Positive Tips for Starting Your Day

20th January 2021 by EMS-Staff

The third Monday in January is known as #BlueMonday, because everyone is feeling the dip after the Christmas festivities, the credit card bills have come in and it seems like a long way to payday, if you are paid monthly.  Normally, we all start thinking about booking Summer holidays but, in the current #COVID-19 climate, this is not possible, as we don’t know when it will be safe to travel.

We need to keep ourselves motivated, and positive, and the best way to do this is ‘one day at a time’.  When we get up in the morning, we need to have a ritual to start our day, to get it off on the right footing.  Otherwise, the saying “he/she got out of bed on the wrong side” might apply.

These are a few positive tips for starting the day:

  • Don’t jump out of bed (this can cause a lightheaded feeling or a muscle spasm). Move gently out of bed.
  • Open the blinds to get the light (this helps set your internal clock).
  • Be thankful for the day and, even if it’s raining, remember, we need the rain for the flowers to grow.
  • Take a few moments to say a prayer, or simply acknowledge being present in the moment.
  • Make your bed – this marks the start of your day and is your first task done.
  • Take some exercise –15 or 20 minutes can jumpstart your metabolism.
  • Have your shower – the negative ions, produced by the hot running water and steam, help you waken up and are believed to increase levels of serotonin in the brain, which helps our mood.
  • Have your breakfast – you need the energy.
  • Get ready for work (even if you are working from home).  Avoid wearing the track suits if you can.  Dress as if you were going to the office and put on some make up – this can help to brighten your mood.

And finally…………………..Have a nice day!!
